It's an easier life, but especially when I sift through the new modern literature from Europe, I can't help empathizing with poet Karl Shapiro's lines: “Now when I drive behind a Diesel-stinking bus / On the way to the university to teach / Stevens and Pound and Mallarmé / I am homesick for war ..... But, it seems to me that the crux of the review is that Junger is asserting authority which he does not possess by virtue of being a mere war tourist – a legitimate critique. ...
