Portoroz

portorozPortorož is the name for elite coastal tourism. The word about how great it is started spreading already in the 13th century, when it started to develop as a SPA tourist destination, it became more elite-centered after 1960, when all the renovations began and all the tourist infrastructure was build.

Elite Coastal Tourism

Portorož is a great coastal destination on the Slovenian coast. It is a part of the Piran municipality and it’s roots started in the roman times. Lipica

kobilarna_lipica_425_let Ten thousands of footsteps can be found in Lipica, but this is a place, that is known by horse hoofs.
Lipica is a small place, just outside the town Sežana in the Slovenian littoral. It is a small village with less then 100 inhabitants, but the mare farm is known around the world. Most people see it as a small village lost in the middle of nowhere, but Lipica hosted a number of world known guests, also the British queen Elizabeth II in year 2008.

Mare Farm Lipica

Mare farm Lipica was founded in 1580 by the Austrian Archduke Karel. It was a partially destroyed summer castle, owned by the Trieste Archbishop. The Hapsburg family needed horses, and they choose the Spanish horse, that was known as the best of that time. The climate of Lipica and Karst was similar enough to the Spanish climate, and they controlled the area since the Turkish army left. Continue reading “Lipica” »

Ljubljana – the capital city of Slovenia

Ljubljana is the capital city of Slovenia. Slovenia is a country with different geographical features, and Ljubljana lies in almost its geographical center.
Ljubljana with its 300.000 inhabitants counts as a smaller European city, but it is visited by a large number of tourists and business people every year. Even more, stars and important persons from culture, sports and politics visit Ljubljana each year, most recently the British queen Elisabeth II.

Ljubljana is also an important traffic route crossing, with an international airport at its borders. Different events have marked its history, in the 2nd World War, it was surrounded by a barb wire fence and turned into a concentration camp. Ljubljana, Emona

The ancient  town Emona was build where today’s Ljubljana lays by the Roman in 14 AD. It was build on the plain, so called the doors of Ljubljana. They used the natural passageway between the Castle hill and the Šiška hill. This passageway is a part of an important trade route, connecting the North Europe with the Mediterranean sea.

Emona layout was a rectangular and measured 523 x 435 meters (572 x 475 yards) sourrounded by walls. The town was divided by five or seven perpendicular roads, called cardines and decumani. Underneath were the kloaka’s, sewage canals, leading to the Ljubljanica river. The walls were consolidated with defence towers and trenches. The city degraded around year 600, when the Slavs started to populate the area and started to build their own colony, that became the Medieval Ljubljana. Continue reading “Ljubljana, Emona” »

Kranjska Gora

Kranjska Gora is a small town in the North eastern part of Slovenia, surrounded by high mountains that reach up to 2000 meters above the sea.

The proximity of the Austrian and Italian border makes Kranjska Gora easy accessible from the neighboring countries, and the Highway connections make it easy for you to visit it from the heartlands of Slovenia. It’s located only 85 kilometers from the Slovenian capital, and you can cross the distance in an hour, because you will enjoy the Slovenian Highways almost all the way. Bled

Bled is a small town, located approximately 50 kilometres from Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. It is true, that the whole Slovenia has only one island, but the Bled island is one of the most known islands around.

Bled is a picturesque little town in an even more picturesque surroundings. The lake that was formed trapped between high mountains, is visited by tourist throughout the year.
